Popular Ghanaian musician and public speaker, Kwame Asare-Obeng popularly known as A-Plus has filed a legal suit against the National Communications Authority (NCA) and the attorney general for blocking unregistered sim cards prior to the Initially stated deadline.

A-Plus is requesting for a declaration on a vivid and requisite interpretation of Articles 2(23) and 296 of the 1992 constitution of the Republic of Ghana, stating that the defendants are refrained from blocking the SIM cards of citizens who have still not been able to re-register their SIM cards until such a time where the National Identification Authority is able to issue the Ghana cards to all citizens.

He is therefore requesting that the SIM cards are reversed to function normally until the National Identification Authority is able to register all citizens.

In light of this debate, the specified deadline for the re-registeration of SIM cards has been slated for the 30th of September 2022 and as part of punitive measures to ensure all citizens register for their Ghana cards in order to perform the re-registeration exercise, the NCA has made it clear that it will be re-routing all out-going telephone calls to IVR for a message to be played before all calls go through everyday.
