Stephen Appiah is a retired Black Stars player who is widely recognized as one of Ghana’s most successful skippers in history.
His actual name is Stephen Leroy Appiah. However, he is nicknamed “Tornado”.
He led the team to its first World Cup tourney in 2006. He is one of the most cherished players to have ever emerged from the senior national team.
In 1995, he joined the Hearts of Oak football club at the age of 15. The next year, he had trials with the Galatasaray youth club but was never signed to the team. He returned to Hearts of Oak after that failed attempt.
In 1997, he got the opportunity to play for Udinese. He stayed with the Italian team for three seasons and moved to Parma in 2000 after a short illness.
After staying with Parma for sometime, he played for Brescia on loan from 2002-2003.
In 2003, Juventus paid Parma €2 million to secure Appiah’s services on loan. In 2004, he made his debut in the UEFA Champions league. At Juventus, he played in 18 Serie A games.
In July, he moved from. Juventus to Fenerbahçe for €8 million. During his time in Fenerbahçe, he was able to win the Turkish Super League Championship in their centenary year.
After the 2006-2007 season, Appiah opted out of the Fenerbahçe football club. However, his offer was denied.
On August 7 2010, Appiah signed a one-year contract with Cesena with the option of an extension if the team is in top flight after the season.
After 2010-2011 season, his contract expired and he became a free agent.
Aside his football career, he is also a dedicated family man.
