Biography
The quiz master for the National Science and Math Quiz is Ghanaian biomedical engineer and scholar Elsie Effah Kaufmann. Marian Ewurama Addy was the quiz mistress from 1993 to 2000, and Eureka Emefa Adomako was the host from 2001 to 2005, when Elsie Kaufmann took over in 2006. Elsie Kaufmann was appointed in December 2020 as the department’s first head of department and an associate professor in the University of Ghana’s biomedical engineering department.
Age
Elsie Effah Kaufmann was born on the 7th of September, 1969. She is now 53 years old.
Education
Kaufmann attended Aburi Girls’ Senior High School for her secondary schooling. In 1988, she received her International Baccalaureate Diploma from the United World College of the Atlantic in Wales. She went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BSE), a Master of Science in Engineering (MSE), and a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania.

Elsie Effah Kaufmann is the mother of three children.
Career
From May 1998 until June 2001, Kaufmann worked as a Research Supervisor at Rutgers University in New Jersey, United States of America, after working as a Teaching Assistant at the University of Pennsylvania, United States of America. At the University of Ghana, Kaufmann was also a Senior Lecturer and the department’s first Head of Biomedical Engineering (2006–2012, 2014–2016). At Ghana Communication Technology University, she serves on the university council. She is the first woman to be chosen Dean of the School of Engineering Sciences at the University of Ghana, and she will assume the position on August 1st, 2022.
