It is one of the newly established tertiary institutions in Ghana right now.
The University Of Environment and Sustainable Development (UESD), Ghana was established by the Ghanaian government with the help of the Ministry of Education to ensure equitable access for all citizens.
The institution is located Somanya in the Yilo Krobo municipality, a district situated in the Eastern region of Ghana.
In April 2013, the then President John Dramani Mahama mobilized a 12-member committee to develop the roadmap for the establishment of the university.
This initiative was followed by the establishment of an implementation committee.
In December, the sod was cut by the former President for the construction of the university.

The sole aim of the establishment of this university was to tackle the critical environmental and sustainable development challenges in the country.
Not long ago, the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) gave the university accreditation to offer five more programmes bringing the total number of programmes offered by the institution to fifteen.

A student who is looking forward to gaining admission into the university must have the following requirements.
Applicant should have credit passes in six subjects, with an Aggregate score of 24 for SSCE holders and 36 for WASSCE certificate holders.
This implies credit passes in any of the following core subjects
- Core Mathematics
- English Language
- Integrated Science or Social Studies
With credit passes in any of the following elective subjects.
- Elective Mathematics
