Why Bawumia Didn’t Accompany Ofori Atta To Present 2023 Budget – Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu Explains; Se Full Narration


The current leader of the majority group of parliament, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has provided details on the circumstances surrounding Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s absence from the actual place of address during the 2023 budget presentation.

In previous years, the Vice President has always accompanied Ofori Atta whenever the government’s budget and policies for the economy is being presented to the house.

However, the 2023 budget presentation took a different twist as Bawumia was nowhere to be found during the presentation made on November 24 2022.

This sudden turn of events triggered chatter from numerous members of the minority group who were of the opinion the Vice President didn’t want to associate himself with the document presented by his team of government.

Providing explanations on the switch in situations, Hon. Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu said that by law, the President of Ghana causes the budget to be prepared but can’t present it himself.

Per his narration, Dr. Bawumia was the acting President as at November 24 because Nana Addo had travelled outside the country and as such he had duly transferred his powers to him.

In relation to this fact, he wasn’t in a better position to present the budget because he was the President at that time.
